Dear friends,
We’ve officially arrived at Module 3: Vipashyana or Insight Meditation.
With the grounding of shamatha, we’re now better equipped to turn our attention toward insight practice. Vipashyana invites us to observe our thoughts and sensations more directly to cultivate embodied insight into the Buddha’s teachings.
In this module, I’ll share a few contemporary insight practices that I’ve found helpful. But to start us off, we’ll begin with the Three Poisons.
In this week’s video, you’ll learn:
An overview of Module 3: Vipashyana or Insight Meditation
The Buddhist teaching of the three poisons
Buddhist psychologist John Welwood’s framing of the poisons as active verbs
How applying this lens while noting your thoughts can deepen your understanding of your own heart-mind
